The laudable goal of coming up with new and interesting things has overtaken the responsible levels of power given certain people and things. The thing about the cold war was that both sides has weapons of mass destruction, and thats what caused the stalemate. One could look at cf and see the same thing. Back in the day when you needed a huge army armed with swords and whatnot to defeat something, there were huge battles. Now, armies have smart bombs, and stealth fighters, pretty much taking away the entire 'fighting' part of war. Maybe if cf de-evolved and made everything weaker, there would be better fights, not just the side with the most everything winning.
