I think they're ok, but a few more restrictions need to be applied(text):

First and foremost, where they can be sent.

These things don't like light. The conjurer might be able to force them into a lighted area(with a vast amount of mana), but even then the nightgaunt will be much weaker, maybe he'll just fight instead of carry you away in a lighted area, too weak to pick you up. These places include cities, and cabal headquarters. These places are well lit, I know so because I've been naked enough and walking around in them to know that I don't need a lamp in the city at night to see.

Second, the distance they can be sent.

There is no reason they should be time-travellers, and they shouldn't be able to be sent from one continent to the next. Also, they shouldn't be able to be sent more than 3 areas away. So, if they set up in the Pine Forest, they shouldn't be able to send the damn thing to Emerald. I agree with the above poster wholeheartedly when he says that there should be certain times that you can feel safe, exploring is one of those times when all you should have to worry about is somebody stumbling upon you or the area itself killing you.

Secondly, what they can see.

They shouldn't be able to see a muter in duo dimension, or a ranger in camouflage, or a thief/assassin hiding, and so forth. This is VERY unbalancing for those classes involved.
