Another thing you could compare it to is the years before World War II... Hitler made a series of unreasonable demands that were met by the war-fearing Europe, and finally they realized that war was necessary to keep their freedom...
Although I'm not a fan of Imperial gangbangs and whatnot, theoretically, the Empire should be like this. I am glad that this happened and I am enjoying the war and the ideals behind it fully.

Granted, this is all within the Empire's role, to make unreasonable demands limitting the freedoms of other Therans, then squashing any who choose not to comply. "Revolt" by any (and likely all) parties was inevitable. This is all well and good. However, I'm not certain that the Empire is in the position to complain when they start getting their asses handed to them.
