I know your pain, but I think you just gotta be a bit smarter now when it comes to wandering around with conjurors range who wanna kill you. I know I keep sanc up constantly (moreso than before). And I'm always ready with a pass door potion to quaf (just in case the gaunt brings me to a noexit)
There also seems to be a split second after getting dropped that you can word if you're quick.
