I am 99% positive that the Emperor and Council wanted you removed because compared to them you were never around. This is typically done by the immortals of Empire in a scenario that you described. As for leaving a bad taste in your mouth, all I can say is get over it if you want to come back. Anybody who is ever inducted into Empire and expects not to become anathema is fooling themselves. I understand that real life gets in the way, and you should understand that to alot of people CF gets in the way of real life.
