The rules are there to promote a good role-playing experience. The imm's are following the spirit of the law by not denying Pikel based on his name and character(which BTW is a very obscure name to begin with, and I have seen many more common names than that).

I think the main reason why the imm's ask that you do not use names of people from books is because we have a preconcieved idea of how that person should act based upon the character from the book. When the character does not act in a manner which is expected, it tends to make things a bit disjuncted for us as players. However, in the case of Pikel, first, very few people know the character, and second, those who do recognize his name find his character to be how they would expect it.

My point of all this is, do you think Pikel is harming or enhancing your playing experience on CF?

It seems to me that everyone who has interacted with him has enjoyed the experience. That would lead me to believe he is a good addition to Thera, regardless of his name.
