This was while you were in form. Not that I've got a huge problem with it, but I would think it a bit more logical if you'd have to revert to your normal self to pay the healer and get healed. Seeing as you can't pick up anything while shifted, it would make sense that you couldn't hand over a purse of gold in return for healing.
