As I understood it, the nightgaunt's primary job is to beat on the target for a bit, then return the target to it's master, still alive. If I were a nightgaunt trying t do this, and nother nightgaunt came, trying to take him somewhere else, I think I'd be rather irritated, if not downright pissed off. Take it where you wish from here, but I could see nightgaunts squabbling over the "prize"...
