From my experience, Ragers seem to draw the players who curse you out like it's an eighth grade playground when they're down. Although my current char is adversarial to the Village, I have attempted on several occasions to start conversations with a few. From what I've seen of their 30-40 ranked folk, I'd place them at the bottom of the cabals as far as RP goes. All I've gotten in response has been taunts, curses, homophobic remarks, and two accusations that I'm "obviously" the same person who plays so-and-so. I've met a few Ragers who at least embody the ideals of the Village to some extent, but none are exactly good conversationalists. To their credit, their Hero-types seem to be cut from a better cloth. My personal interpretation of all this is that the Ragers who sit at levels 20-40 tend to be the players who are interested in maximizing their personal power above all other factors. It's a cabal with some fantastic powers that are very useful in PKing, so it has a lot of draw for mid-skill power players, especially because using the powers is fairly straightforward as long as you aren't facing a highly skilled opponent. The Ragers who have heroed are willing to take some extra risks to become great Therans, and have liekly had to endure many defeats on the way, and it takes a different type of player to enjoy that kind of struggle.
My highlight from yesterday: "Nice try, you sh*t.", after which the player in question ignored further attempts to speak. It actually made me decide to quit out for the night, out of disgust. I don't play CF for the PK angle, although I think it adds a lot to the game. (Which is a good thing, since I'm quite bad at PKing.) I see it as an RP experience, set in a harsh environment where violence is just a fact of life. This is why some of my more pointed remarks on this forum have been directed at folks like Severyns, or the Rager I'm quoting above.
So..... your assumption is partially correct. It was a "jerky remark", but I wouldn't say it was "just a jerky remark." I am glad to see that someone applying to the Village is as disgusted as I am by this sort of nonsense. Best of luck to you, Shirenne.
