It's been a day or two since I played a muter, but here's a couple of thoughts:

1) As soon as you saw that one of the spells unaffected was slow, haste vachanka twice instead of continuing to cancel him. He still has the soften, but at least the slow would be gone. (Note: in this case, only 2 spells were on Vachanka)

2) Give Vachanka back his halberd. Couldn't have hurt. Punching as he was, he never had a chance.

If I think of more, I'll post them.
