Hmm, cheating only means that the player
has low skills in game (I mean player, not
the character). Most cheaters can be beaten
into nothing regardless the eq they have
passed from their other characters (mostly
that eq is crap, as their knowledge of Thera
is poor).
I understood that about a year ago, and
since that time none of my chars did cheat.
(Obviously I did before and was caught
several times, but who didn't cheat? :)

I think most people stop cheating as their
skills grow. Compare it with mindless pk:

low skill: run from everyone
average skill: look at the person, and only
attack if [s]he has bad eq.
good skill: attack anyone without looking at
him/her first.
excellent skill: look at person first, and
only attack if [s]he has something
you'd like to get.

PK out of roleplaying only comes after that
all stages are passed (just my opinion).

Another thing with cheating is when you get
REALLY GOOD eq that you have no use of.
For example, fighter with mage's eq or vice
versa. The temptation to pass all this to
your other char is sometimes strong. I know
several really strong people who couldn't
resist. One of them was applying to
immortality even when he was caught cheating.
Funny, isn't it?
