Almost every Paladin I know has attacked me in a city. Hell, I remember when Paladins were not allowed in arbiters because the immortals felt their hate of evil was more powerful than their lawfulness. My guess would be this though. This paladin was probably a sphere of order or something lawful related. It is like a transmutter I knew having a sphere of chaos and then taking the bloodoath. Poor guy lost everything.
