Well, there's no way to tell for sure if it was the same eagle or not. My guess it that it was the same one. The first fight was on the Eastern Road and the second was in the mountains by Udgaard. That means there was more than enough time for him to fly away, revert, slow, and heal up or just go to the nearest healer. As for the differences in the way the fights went, it looks like the eagle wasn't hasted, but I have a hard time believing that he just forgot to haste himself. Or he could've just gotten luckier the second time. My advice to you is not to rely on succor to save you from a fight *ever*. In my opinion, you should've quaffed a return, fled and cranialed it, or stayed and duke it out with drum.
