> > Unique. As in, not copied from a book, movie, video game, etc. I don't see why people can't understand this, as simply as possible. The whole point of the lame name thing is to avoid distractions to roleplay. It's hard to pretend to be a giant warrior who likes to eat only meat and beat on gnomes (for example) when a guy named Shaitan comes walking in and he's like a storm giant paladin. (For those who don't know, Shai'tan is the name of the Dark One, the ultimate source of evil, the big head bad guy, in the Wheel of Time series, by Robert Jordan). A more obvious example would be a guy named Jamesbond who plays a bard and walks into the Inn and asks for a Martini, shaken not stirred. Since you can't fill some sort of database with every single name anyone has heard of from a book, movie, tv show, or what have you, the Imms have to police it based on their own feelings. That's probably why a name like Pikel got through (I myself hadn't ever heard of it, but obviously some people have) and a name like Aragorn won't.

> > To say that it isn't fair or right for a name like Chris to be around is inane. To say that it shouldn't be there because 2 years, 1 month, 3 weeks, 5 days, 6 hours, and 3 minutes ago some Imm denied you for having a mathematical equation for a name (exaggeration, but my point stands) is worse than inane.

> Names like Chris, John, James... or whatever that are common and used into todays world should not be used in my opinon. I dont care if they are 'unique' they detract more from the fantasy roleplaying atmosphere more than an obscure name that does not fit your 'unique' specification.

exactly...here is what cf says when you create a new char...

\By what name do you wish to be mourned? blah (i used something else...but hey, i gotta protect my identity..)
\Did I get that right, blah (Y/N)? y
\New character.

\Here at The Carrion Fields we promote a roleplaying environment. Because of
\this atmosphere, we do not allow just any name you may want. The names must
\meet a certain criteria and if they do not, they will be denied. The following
\questions are good guidelines for determining if you have chosen an appropriate
\name.

\Is this name an original name as far as you know (Y/N)? y

RIGHT HERE...ORIGINAL NAME...do you consider Chris an orignal name umguy?

\Is this name a combination of two other names (e.g. Maryjane) (Y/N)? n

RIGHT here it even uses two of today's common names as an example...comon??

\Is this name found in any dictionary or a common slang term (Y/N)? n

\By answering as you have to the previous questions you have claimed that your
\name is completely legitimate in our fantasy world. If you have lied in the
\previous questions and we deem your name unfit you will be denied without
\warning. This is your last chance.

\Are you sure this name is acceptable (Y/N)?

I know so many damned Chris's in my rl that speaking or grouping or seeing them in a fantasy world
just seems strange and outright...even if it may have been used somewhat in the dark ages, cf isn't the dark ages,
it's a fantasy world where everything is supposed to be different from our real lives...that's why it's called fantasy...
oh, and I never said I got my name from tangent cosine and sine...I just said that's what the imms thought...I was just making
an original name and being a good little citizen of CF...

almost sounds like either you have one of those chars named chris or your real name is chris, and your just taking offense to my
beliefs in that way.....

well neways....
good luck and much knowledge to all denizens of CF...
names???

p.s. remember to be good cf citizens and create an original name!!:)
