First problem: We've got three people that can see IPS, only a few more that can remove posts. None of us are here 24/7, so it's very possible that a post showing say, every secret in Trothon was posted and it stayed up for the weekend. It's already done the damage. Trothon is removed like Hell was and we the VIPS of the forum are swamped with complaints from people who bitch because we didn't react earlier. We didn't remove the post or even ban the person. We CAN'T ban the person because he's using anonymizer, so we ban anonymizer. Now the poster has a brand new lease on forum posting, going about his usual posting using his regular IP and causing no problems. He goes unpunished.

Secondly: It already has been used that way. I removed a post that blatantly named an imm as a "cheater" who used ICQ or something to share information. Maybe only a few people saw it, but that IS "char assassination" even though it is an imm, and as you'll see on the logboard rules, that's a bannable offense.

Notice that I haven't deleted any of the "Agent13" posts because they don't finger any one person or persons. They're not flammable so they'll remain. However, the danger remains that anonymizers make it possible to leak out potentially game threatening secrets without consequence.

Let me ask you. Which is worse, having the anonymizers banned from the forum, or having every quest, wand, and area like Trothon removed from the mud?

It's no rocket science.
