There is nothing you can do about people who work the system to log on their character from the Cabal that currently has the numbers. If they choose to play the game that way, so be it. The rest of us just have to deal with it, which is not always a bad thing. There is plenty you can do to try to even the odds up a bit. Some advice...

1. Log on for a significant period of time. Whatever works for you...an hour is sometimes all the time I have, and that seems to work. See if any other allies log on during that time period, or if a significant number of enemies log off. If, at the end of your time, nothing has changed, call it quits for the time being. Take a break. Drink a beer. Play with your dog.

2. While you are on, explore! This MUD is so freakin' huge it is amazing. I have been playing for almost five years and have yet to explore everywhere. Not that that really means anything, the point is you can keep yourself busy and entertained (and relatively safe) by exploring out of the way areas. And if that group of five Imperial gang-bangers manages to tear themselves away from the Citadel/Balator/New Thalos/Eastern Road and stumbles upon you whilst you tread through the Octoganal Tower...well, good on 'em! Then it gets really fun...

3. Hunt your enemies, pick 'em off one by one. Not for everyone, but you can pretty much guarantee that all ten Imperial Heroes who are on are not just sitting around the Citadel playing hearts. Some of them venture out and explore/hunt/equip. Once you have slashed through their numbers significantly, then either raid, or sit back and, with a great deal of satisfaction, look at the three full sets of darkened equipment you managed to loot before you give it away to some deserving newbie AP.

4. Hide in your Cabal and wait for all ten of them to raid and slay you. This might not even the odds up for your Cabal, though.

(I use Empire as an example, but its really the same no matter what Cabal you are in, just replace Citizens with Barbarians/Sylvans/etc.)

Just some thoughts, take them or leave them. The bottom line is that the game changes over a period of time, and we, the players, have to change with it. If gangbanging is the way to go, then either get on the bandwagon with everyone else, or tip it over and see what comes next. But one of the reasons I have stuck with the game for this long is that it *is* constantly changing, and that to me is half the draw and what keeps it challenging.
