Deathblow is not the problem, have you seen a deathblow on a prepared mage? decimates him. What kills mages though is the ability to lag them, I really don't know how warriors got by without their new specialization skills that can lag a mage but that's beside the point. I would say with three people lagging you sucessfully with various skills a non-master mage would die and a master might get one chance to get away hurt. One other thing though, have the immortals decided to lean the mage class even more to the elite or at least moderately knowledgeable people. With the removal of sanctuary potions, the locations of which were basically common knowledge (large hobgoblin and Templar). Instead we are given barrier, shield, aura rods. So take the case of a mage in hero range with no knowledge of where these items are, nobody willing to tell him for fear of their relocation again and all the while getting pounded by ragers. I'd say this mage would have a rather short lived life in Thera and that's when the gang banging sucks.
