Well, You are lucky to have gotten so far on iceneedles as it is. ;)
As I did not even perfect that spell, until I was a heroine.
Since my days of being an Invoker, yes things did get harder, they took out most of the quick-tricks, and easy methods for perfection, yes there were lots of them, and it all varies. ;)
However, as a Gnome Invoker as I was, Some things went quicker than others.
In my experience, I thought frost was going to be the quickest thing learned, as I perfected Frost Fingers first.
I was shot down on that theory, not perfecting my last frosty shield until 50 hours after I had finished any other.
Cone of cold as an example, I thought I had been having a bad day, or week for the matter, as I cast it 5-10 hours a day, 3 days in a row, before perfecting it.

However, should you arrive at the point in the future ofcourse, you will surely find, Vortex as the hardest spell to perfect *period* of all spells, with Just reason as to why.

Above all, however, if you know some tricks, perfection is just around the corner.
And be weary of the Ice, you'd figure they'd put a lock out on the fire, with all the Pyro's out there.
