b. blinding it and waiting till it fades seems a nice option (if a is true).
c. If the distance thing works, fleeing and recalling / teleporting might give a distance large enough between you and the lazy nightgaunt.
d. Any vulnerabilities? perhaps easily crushed?, very vulnerable to wrath or whatever?
e. wild guess.. flee, go to sleep, and hope the nightgaunt picks you up in stead of attacking.
note, i've no experience whatsoever with nightgaunts, just read most of the posts about them.
