I am sure alot of people have their own theories out there but sometimes its seems that certain races lean towards certain forms more often than not (like drow/half-elves have the ram a lot but I could be full of crap on this one). A trend I have seen for my forms goes as follows:

defense:
hare = porcupine or dillo but not mongoose
tortoise = mongoose or porcupine but not dillo

offesene:
boar = tiger or lion but not ram
wolf = lion or ram (but I have gotten ram more often than not.) but not tiger.

Utility:
cat = fox
racoon = wildcat

but you broke the mode on that one.

Alot seems to ride on what your first form is and I really hope that that is the case (cause I dont want to have the boar and work it up thinking I might get a cat form to get the freaking ram again :P)

Lhreamajh-halfelf-ram
Meriado-halfelf-ram
Alzzain-drow-ram
Llinearnoz-drow-tiger (well there goes that theory but she did have a boar as a minor)

Mizju-drow-porcupine (tortoise)
Kadsuane-drow-porcupine (hare?)
Serafim-drow-dillo (hare)
Orlano-elf-dillo (hare)
Dainlyn-halfelf-mongoose (tortoise)

Some people also seem to think that certain spheres influence what you get...beats me though on that one.
