First, try irc.dal.net as the irc server. Webzone is just one of DalNet servers, it could be screwed. irc.dal.net sends you randomly to some of DalNet servers.
If it's firewall, then java client should still work (try DalNet java client) if you can browse web from work. Java clients are usually lousy, but since I don't know anything about your firewall, I can't suggest you how to make your irc client works with it.
