Might as well go with the old Sylvan Duergar Necromancer w/ hold.

That way you can summon them into the thorns, sleep 'em, hold 'em, call a beast on 'em, sick your zombies on 'em... much more deadly than the thief.

or if you're going for offense...

Battle (berserker) offensive major transmuter w/ rejuvenate.

Off you go.. bloodthirsting, resisting ram that can rejuvenate itself and deflect spells. Now that is a problem.. especially if you can get deathblow working.
