I've been told that when a mob is about to attack someone but has more than one target (e.g., a group walks into an aggro mob, a group attacks a mob and another mob assists, etc.), the mob always attacks the character with the lowest charisma.
So if you're a polearm-spec warrior or something, you might actually prefer to have low charisma, to protect your groupmates. Or you could be an unkind bastard, roll a high charisma, and let the mages get thwacked.
