I've taken a bunch of paladins up there (I was in a good-align rut for a very long time), about three of which were storm giants or elves and so required an even more obscene amount of xp. It still was considerably faster than levelling a necromancer with groups obtained purely IC. You're more or less dead weight as a necromancer for most of the levels, and the more skilled players know it. Most won't group with you unless there is no other option (you're evil, so no pity groups unless someone is slacking off on being evil).
