Yes, they are illnesses. It must be something that the Imms just put in today. I think they do it to add a bit more realism to the game. Go to a healer, and type heal illness to list the prices for healing certain illnesses. Those are all also contagious. Just go to the healer and type heal illness type and have the gold ready.
