The day CF goes graphical is the day I hang up the old As far as improvements in CF:
leather travelling boots and find something else to do.
Speed of lines etc has nothing to do with my not liking
graphical muds. What does cause me to laugh when I see
them is seeing some horrible beast up close and counting
the pixels instead of being afraid. When you put a picture
to a book you take away most of the experience of the
story. Making something like CF into a graphical mud would
bring in more people probably, but are they the type you want
running around in the CF world? I doubt it. Most likely it'd
bring in the morons currently playing everquest and auctioning
characters on ebay. My point is making a game like CF graphical
would destroy the reason I play it by taking away the enjoyment
I get from imagining what the world and it's characters are like.
1. Get rid of the auction channel. Make a silent auction kind of
like a fence where players give the item to the fence. Then when
another character comes in and buys it the money is put in the sellers
bank account (minus a small fee for the auction). Trading would be done
through tells or set up a auction place where people can go to trade.
2. Vary the skills so that every warrior, mage, etc.. doesn't have
the same skills. It's kind of boring knowing that every warrior who's
a sword spec will have the same skills and will fight almost the same
way. Same goes with mages. I know every invoker will have pillars and
every muter will be able to fumble, slow haste etc.. Don't make it random,
just give the character a large pool of skills and spells to choose from
based on class and allow for more specialization in certain schools of weapons
or spells.
3. Get rid of report. Nothing irks me more than roleplaying then having
someone report their status.
4. Balance mages and warriors. It makes no sense why a young mage working as
hard as a young warrior can't become proficient in the use of magic at the same
rate a warrior does with weapons. The same for higher ranked mages and warriors.
Why can't a warrior learn more ways to protect himself from magic and new ways of
dealing death and mayhem when he's in the higher ranks.
5. Get rid of the ability to group and cabal talk while knocked out or sleeping.
Using tells etc while awake is fine since interaction would be severly limited without it.
6. Get rid of the empowering process for priest classes. Instead give them their class's
skill pool to choose from and if they want more power they can try for their
deity's blessing to get more powers to add. Limiting the classes to skills under the 10th
rank without having to speak to their god is both boring and ridiculous. That'd be like
expecting a catholic priest wannabe to sit in his church and pray to god until he spoken to
in order to become an actual priest. Anyone should be able to be a priest of their god.
7. More cabals. I don't care if they're powerful and full of members or not and if their
fight is one of great importance. Have cabals to take away all the focus currently on the major
ones. Things like the galadon militia, the post 22 thieves' guild, just give people a cause to
fight for and band together for other than the current few.
8. Lose all the ooc lists such as pk.
And one final one for the players. Lose the irc, icq crap
and just play the game in character. This bull of everyone
knowing who's playing what character is ridiculous. I didn't
realize how much ooc interaction goes on. Why even play CF.
Just go to the chat room and stay there instead of bringing all
the ooc knowledge into the game. I see so many posts complaining
about how cabals and conjurers are ruining the game. That's not how
I see it. I blame the players. The game's gotten bigger and better
while the players haven't. The use of ooc forums have ruined the
play of most of the people on CF. It's kind of like seeing a movie
star or sports athlete who's larger than life and then finding out all
the dirt about his personal life. He's no longer looked at for his
on stage/field accomplishments. Same thing applies to characters on CF.
Knowing that the leader of cabal x has another character in cabal y and
uses ooc knowledge to know when to log in with either character doesn't
help the game. Instead it diminishes anything that character accomplishes.
Screw it, I'm rambling now. Just quit with all the ooc crap and try playing
the game with one damn character the way it was supposed to be played.
