It is called tactic.
Idea to fight with bunch of people who do not have experince fighting as a team
is do not allow them to surround you so they have to push each other to able to aim at you.
Or place somebody in front and use him as a shield.
Or pretend you are fleeing and kick first coming after you.
There are lots of such tricks.

Yes you would not fight better then you do against one opponent but sure you would sure do better job this way.
So do not tell it is against realism.
