There are multiple sources of aura, shield, and barrier (not all of them are wands), and many of them are accessible to anyone of any level. Did my conjurer find them all? No... I came across one that I hadn't known about as my conjurer. But then again, how did your last character know about that cache of practice weapons in the Balator supply closet? You say one thing is "elitist" and another not, just because you don't know the former yourself, and do know the latter. And of course, the only way I could possibly know any of the rod locations is because some OOC connection told me about them.... Uh, not quite. I read one of those ambiguous Immortal posts on the forum way back (it may have been by Nep, come to think of it), about how the rods were hidden in logical places. I looked at the area list, and started searching. I was more than pleased with my results. Admittedly, I did swap knowledge of one rod location for another with the DIKU collective mind, but the one I traded for was removed a long time ago. :P So, you want to find the rods...? Here's my non-explicit advice.... Think to yourself... where would be a good place to look for items of magical power? Are such items likely to be lying in the open? Have you noticed that you can sometimes look at specific things in a room description? Did you know that sometimes you can look INSIDE specific things in a room description? That should get you started.
