In my opinion a human warrior would be best to start out with. They have no exp bonus and aren't that hard to play in the lower levels. Once you get up in the ranks though expect to have problems. If you can roleplay and have played some sort of mud before I recommend a healer. Healer are always in demand and are easy to learn. There is no real need to perfect anything but your basic spells.
