First of all, I wouldn't suggest a priest of any kind to start with if you don't know the mud. If you learn quick and can role-play, it's do-able, but still quite difficult since you have to be empowered. Pure mages require alot of practice time to get their spells usefull, and you can't explore with them at low ranks cause they die so easily. I would suggest either a warrior, ranger, or ap. They all have a nice chance of survival at low ranks for exploring and learning the general way of the mud. Ragers are good because they don't tire easily. Quite nice if you stumble into an area that you shouldn't and have to get away (course, if you're under rank 10 just recall). Granted, my first char was a storm paladin, but I didn't get too far with him either. I think I restarted him about 15 times or so because I didn't understand how empowerment works. Then to top it off, he followed sphere honor and Cador's shrine is not the easiest place to find when you don't know the landscape. Hell, it's still not the easiest place to find, even when you do. Also, I agree with not grouping alot at first. I know a couple people who are near hero or are hero already and don't know jack yet because they grouped with a couple power rankers and didn't learn anything. Anyway, that's my opinion.
