Yes, it's the principle of the thing. Take it as accepted fact that, in the designed nature of Evil, they will screw each other over. Just my $.02
However, Empire is Lawful Evil, and at least in theory, is supposedly to apply reasons (however flimsy) before doing something like anathematizing someone. Simply anathematizing someone just because you feel like it is Chaotic Evil, not Lawful Evil.
That being said, I do feel that Empire doesn't really see enough Anathematizations, in general, for a number of reasons. In general, I'd be all for seeing more anathematizations made for just about any reason.
Where the problem arises is in the application of this. Right now anathematizations of someone who's anywhere near effective, roleplays well, and doesn't make mistakes are few and far between, causing cries of "Foul!" like in this case.
I would like to see either anathematization become more common among *everyone* playing Empire, not just idiots and ousted sect leaders, *or* to establish some better criteria to prevent some sect leader/emperor from just deciding they don't like someone's face, and stepping on the character.
