Reading the family thing reminded me straight away of the odyssey (Note: I am not saying that it is anything like the odyssey - just using it for a point). When I first read Tolkien, it was the first time I had read anything of the sought. It reminded me of my own imagination, not of anyone elses works which I guess is hard to do these days. I believe if a story reminds you of another story then it loses part of its charm. As I said hard to do these days, I guess it is sad really. I am not really impressed by the speech either. Not bad, but defintley no archives. Interesting. I recall reading a story by... Vernor Vinge I think... where all art had eventually been done and there was nothing new under the sun. Can't remember the solution, but it was something along the lines of wiping the archives and starting over. BTW, I enjoyed "Eternity"
