Let me clarify. I put forward that there are at least 5 different classes of skill with wich cf'ers can be endowed. 1)Ranking skill. The ability, through ic, or more likely irl friends, to minimize the absolutely humdrum of k mob k mob k mob k mob k mob k mob...for at the shortest 50 hours of your life. 2)Mechanics skill. The ability to create shortcuts that give you an edge in pk. targeting, aliases, triggers, etc. 3)pk skill. Those who are able to kill pretty much whoever they want, whenever they want. 4)rp skill. Those who choose a unique(this is the opperative, not 'your time to die') roll, and make it beleiveable that this is a real person, not a foil. You, my friend are missing this persons point. That in the past few years, this...middle ground... of phenomenal rpers but middlin to fair at best mudders that made the mudding experience worth while to him, has all but disapeared with the rise of two groups...the rankers, and the pkers. Most chars today fall into one or both of these groups during their lives, but what has happened recently, is that the ranking and pking, as means to an end, have turned into ends themselves. Now to be fair, this does give the opportunity for those few with skill in all 4 areas to shine bright, but his point, is why be the Rose in the weed garden, if you have to be surrounded by weeds.
> well i've never heard of any of your characters so i can only assume your rp wasn't knock out yourself...
Graham, Graham, Graham. It hurts me to think how the intelligence you have shown in all your posts up to this point is blasted by this one statement. That you can look at cf as so one-dimensional, and equate rp skill with ranking skill and pk skill and mechanics skill and roll them all up into one.
You state that because none of these characters are widely known, or at least known by you, that thier rp must not have been all that good.
Now, I have been cfing since mid '95. Some of the best roleplay I have seen in this time were from characters from teens to mid thirties that never were noticed because they could give a shit about ranking, or power pking, or how nifty they could get with their client. Hell, I could tell you the name of a ranger 3 years ago, and an old school tranny(back when they had charm person and crushing hand and all) from way back that I can honestly say rp'ed better than 9/10's of the people on that list a little ways down. And I can say this because I DID interact with most of them on some level. But you wouldnt know their names. No glimmer would flash in your mind "I remember him". Why? because they rp'ed their roles. Not because they could NOT rp well. but because their roles that they had chosen of their own free will, were roles that did not mix well with mindless ranking or pking.
I hope my point has made its way clear into the peoples heads that read this...and as a reply to Spectre's who's who in rp post, I would say find someone that everybody DOESNT know that does great rp, and tell everyone why it is great rp...that will help everyone more than just unwittingly reaffirming to the lowly masses that you have to be a pk god to be noticed or even considered a good rper.
done with this.
