While I agree with the kernal that lies behind all of Widowson's posts, I do not infact agree with all of the conclusions he draws from these kernals, nor perhaps his word choice in expressing them. I must, however, agree with you on this point. Most of the examples he is using to make his arguments are indeed outdated and no-longer valid...and this can only be remedied by playing cf, and by playing a roll wich is embroiled in the things he wishes to talk about. Again however...I beleive that just because the examples he uses to express the kernal of his thoughts are no-longer valid...does not necessarily invalidate the kernal in its entirety.
