Much of what was said is God's honest truth. It's so true to CF that I've gotta wonder if the writer doesn't play CF and read this goddam forum :)

Seriously though, I often think about the "good old days" and I have to wonder if CF really has gone sour and it's not just something that's all in my head. I started playing CF(my first and only mud), like a day after the start of the third age. I can remember killing people and leaving shit in their corpse. Honor was held in higher regard as you actually respected the Knights somewhat, here these people were that not only fought evil and did it well, but actually helped people as well. Gangbanging ragers, Imperials, everybody else, wasn't commonplace and mages weren't ungodly bringers of death and destruction. Roleplaying was generally piss-poor, but then it really always has been from my recollection.

It's truely difficult to think of when things started going wrong. Many will point to the Empire and say that's it, but I'm not so sure. It certainly came right about that time for me I think. People started full-looting and sacraficing the shit they didn't need. Some genius decided gang-banging was an easy way to kill and everybody jumped in line. The line between evil and good became blurred to the point that it became difficult to tell one from the other as lightwalkers started ganking anybody and everybody just like the evils were. Knights got honorable combat, which really shouldn't have ever been necessary to begin with, which was used to remedy the ganging situation somewhat. Knights turned into bastards that killed indiscriminately for the most part and sometimes even ganged others. Their subsequent disbandment created a void that now makes lightwalkers somewhat of a joke. Dawn arose and this just further urged on the joke as the idea of "peace" was introduced to CF, the playerbase laughing all the while as they attacked the phoenix to bring the dawnies running so they could shoot them like fish in a barrel. Sylvan started calling anyone and everyone a defiler and started ganking people like there was no tommorrow. Roadblocks hindered movement on the roads and the fear of walking into a wall of thorns kept people out of the forests. Arbiter abuse ran rampant as greats like Canopus and Justin died off or immorted. Entropy was annoying as hell then fell off the planet only to return with a much meaner guise and a catch phrase. Things just turned into shit really :)

I'm sure a lot of people think like this, but when the enlightenment of phase 3 comes you realize it just doesn't fucking matter anymore. You roll up a dawnie or an arbiter because you're tired of the bullshit that goes on in the empire/sylvan/rager/master wars and you begin to enjoy things much more. You avoid eastern road because ragers don't know about any other areas except that and the past. You run around in groups so you don't have to worry about Empire because they won't attack a group, only a single person. You stay out of the cities or play an arbiter so you don't have to worry about them fucking you over. You spend a lot of time in the Inn because it's relatively safe and the idiots are out killing somewhere leaving you with halfway intelligent people. You powerrank to hero for really no reason at all other than escaping the morons that level sit. Then you explore and when somebody pisses you off you log out, log in to Dioxide's and kill indiscriminately using a crusader because all of the cabals are fruitless.
