If a CForum FAQ is ever started, I'd like to submit the following: Q: Why is the Battle cabal so overpowered? Why are they doing so well on the CabalRaid Stats? A: Play a hero-range rager. I'm not giving you a glib reply; that's my honest advice. Battle's strength is illusory. At best, it's one-dimensional. There's a whole world of versatility and security blankets they have to forsake. They're powerful in a pure fight, but the price for that power is that they'll be forced to die in ways no other character should. Consider: - There is no recall/teleport/gate or other magical escape for Ragers. They need to either win the fight or run the old-fashioned way. Every time you quaff a return potion with another character or cast word, you would likely be dead if you were Battle. - A cabal member without powers is usually no weaker than an uncaballed character of the same class. A Rager is. They make up for this in some measure by having an advantage in recovering their item; a cabal composed of fighting classes can generally recover with lower levels. Unlike some other cabals, there's also internal pressure to do just that. This's just the tip of the iceberg. I don't want to hamstring Battle by giving the complete itemized list. If you hate Battle, or if you think Battle is too strong, play one. Make sure to advance to the higher levels; the flaws are similar at all levels, but they're easier to see up there. Keep a list of every time you die, along with the circumstances that led to your death. I promise being Battle won't be as easy as you thought it would be. At the end of your Battle experience, there are two possibilities: 1) You discover that you love Battle. Some players just can't get enough of it and play Battle almost exclusively. 2) You discover that you hate playing Battle. Go back to playing something else. You're not going back empty-handed -- you now have a good idea of how to beat Ragers from your experiences. For an added challenge, play that first Rager with the level of courage and honor you think they should have.
- If a Battle character isn't one of the two flying races, they can never fly. (There are a few narrow exceptions, please don't dilute the point by pointing them out) This both restricts their mobility and leaves them permanently guaranteed vulnerable to some attacks.
