but i fear i would give away a current character ... but to this point (as is my current theme) to be original you have to be original compared to something.. > Thoughts? Comments? Post 'em. Basically my view is, archetypes are good and well archetypes are what identify unusual things. Ie if you meet a very boring person all you can talk about is the weather..thereon you just PK, interesting people can do interesting things. The FTA goons can tell you all about the different personalities in the armed forces and most of which are trained to the same level. College students who should do their homework but skive off to play games/drink beer. Priests that acknowledge they are succeptible to temptation and must struggle to fight it. Dyslexia, fear of responsibility etc etc i'm gibbering now but i'm at work and dioxides posting box is far too narrow.
a dwarf who doesn't like mines, who thinks axes are for queers
People would just say "so what" until it's known that he's supposed to like them in the first place.
The point is to play a -believeable-/-interesting- archetype and thats where your points about character flaws/traits are utterly important.
To be able to tell the difference between dwarf warrior A and dwarf warrior B the 2 must have "characters" that you can tell the difference between, and give you something to talk about.
It doesn't even need to stop you doing things, it just presents a "situation" for you...ie your group mates have to coerce you (forcefully) to quaff that flying potion to go up to arial city.. gives you something to discuss as your hackin'& slashin' them arials.
