From what I understand, Drow Society is composed of many different families that live in a rigid Hierarchy. One family is better than the other and so forth. Only the woman can be head of a household, IE Matron Mothers. Males lead the soldiers of the houses against the other houses in battle. Families wage silent wars against other families to move up in the society. If any survivor is left to point a finger to the house that attacked them then the attacker is destroyed. Every member of the household and the surviving members of the attacked family are adopted into another. Males go to military school or learn sorcery while females become priests, high priests and matron mothers. In secret families that succeed in eliminating another house are commended. When a family loses favor with Lloth they are pretty much ripe for getting attacked. The whole society is based on the fact that men are second rate citizens. Although they are not slaves they are not given the higher positions like females are. It is a society that is built around assassination and intrigue. It is considered a good thing if you can silently kill a foe without leaving any survivors or someone to point a finger.
