Always consider your opponent. If it is a perfect match, and the warrior is caught off guard, a lucky Assassin can land strangle, blind, poison. If the Assassin is caught off guard, bashes will finish him. Don't be so quick to kans, remember that it lags for 2 rounds, if the Assassin is caught off guard better to flee, run a bit, hide, then return and get a look at the giant. Assassins will have a hard time against an 'easy kill' warrior, but if they're smart they'll win. Assassins that get 'few lucky blows' or 'razor-sharp' are pretty much dead unless they're ac, dex, and hp's are just that amazing.
Another factor is weapons. Assassins should -always- be wearing a shield when fighting warriors, unless they're just so sure of victory. Axes are for the most part mithril, so if the Assassin wanted to fight the warrior, he'd better hope a good kans would land.
Kicking is useless in my opinion.. Throw is a better option, it keeps the warrior from wielding another weapon, fleeing, bashing, whatnot. Caltraps are.. useless.. unless you just can't seem to hit an arial, duergar, human, or half-elf.. Against a fire giant it's just silly.
The main idea is to predict the outcome. Assassins should never attack anything straight on, without taking these factors into consideration. But then again, any class is good with preparation, assassins just have specific options that affect the outcome in different ways, it's their job to find the right one.
