I think it's because of the level of the spell that's casted on you. As a hero, I fight alot of mobs, some are higher than hero and some lower. I do admit blind is harder to cure, but I find it easier to at hero level. As for redemption, it's still hard to reverse a triton bishop's damnation, but I have great success redeeming damnation from a drow cleric student, a lot lower in level.
