the physical work of running a blacksmith would of course make a strength prereq make sense. as well as some other skills

kick - pissed off at that ruined greaves you've put hours into hammering...I'm sure they would be able to put some force behind it.

maybe even some unique defensive capabilities because of their familiarity with weapons and equipment.

not a clue though how you could explain any kind of humming/glowing effects in roleplaying game terms though. my mental image of a blacksmith isn't one of a big guy studying his magic book at night. +damroll/hitroll would be logical though because of superior quality equipment. maybe even a skill to name your better made pieces of equipment (something like Troupes ability to name their drinks). This would also really add a bonus to identify and lore during gameplay.
