I'm not sure if you interacted with Zepachu, but...:

In Reply to: Paladins? Empire? Hardly seems worth the effort if you can be unempowered and anathema'd so easily. (text within) posted by Bishop on August 6, 2000 at 19:51:41:

...needless to say, he was not the typical Imperial Blade. Many things he said and did were completely unorthodox, including hanging out for hours at a time in the Inn of the Eternal Star and drinking heavily. Why was he not anathemaed? It was not because no one saw him do these things. In fact, Khayr saw some things things himself that I thought for sure I would be anathemaed. The lesson here is... You can be an Imperial and more. If I did not live up to my Imperial duties, I would be anathemaed. But since I did the job of a Blade, grabbing other cabal items, retrieving our own, subduing some into taking the bloodoath, putting down effective roadblocks, and defending valiantly,... I could also do things that typically are unheard of being done.

For example:

1) Being drunk and running around flapping my arms throughout the Inn, searching for trapdoors, grabbing people's collars demanding the location of the secret trapdoor in the Inn.

2) Taking a taking a few real hours to interact with Lightwalkers and have fun at social gatherings at the Inn

3) And for the last example, a humorous one. I spent a realtime half-hour cleaning the entrance to the Paladin's Guild, the Temple of the Sun, and the Cleric's Guild in Galadon. Yep, with a mop and soap... along with Nicolette.

The more of this wacky rant... If you get anathemaed you deserve it. The Empire gets rid of dead weight, and they do so through the art we all know so well called Anathemization (if that is a word).

> I really wanted to roll a Paladin after the changes but I thought I'd wait 1) so the quirks could be worked out and 2) I knew everyone and his brother would be rolling one making it hard to get immortals attention. Now after reading the log of the pissed off guy who got unempowered I'm starting reconsider. I went through this with the Empire, too. I had 3 bloodoaths that were anathema'd before I finally got a blade in. Then, after about 3 weeks, an immortal anathema'd me for doing a quest that envolved saving an elf when I was but 6 ranks old. So I was like 'Fuck this. Why should I waste time trying to be in the Empire when I could kicked out at any given time if an immortal feels like being an immortal and anathema's all my hard work.' So now I don't try to roll Empire chars anymore. Now the whole Paladin thing has come up. Does anyone else share my feelings. I don't see how the Empire stays so full. Are the powers really worth the risk? And what about paladins? From the log this 'pissed off' guy obviously broke a few rules and it looked like he got what was coming to him but it made me think. ALL this hard work could be destroyed anytime an immortal feels like taking it away. I'm rabbling now I think but paladins were really interesting until I saw how easy it was to be unempowered...now I share the same feelings for both Empire and paladins. Can you immortals give some feedback? Or anyone playing empire or a paladin currently? Does the risk of turnover really out-weigh the powers?
