The Duergar's ability to see hidden is not the same as the Arbies. Arbies use Vigilance, which does not let them see assassins hidden in the woods (they are city folk).

But I have both seen hidden assassins in the woods (with my duerg shaman) and been seen while hidden in the woods (trying to hide from those damned cookie cutter lowbie killing (smug usually)duergar warriors).
