Well, my biggest newbie thing... I thought that the cloak of nightwing granted flying and was super-rare... that's why everyone wanted one.
As for RP, I didn't start realizing what RP was until the fall of the Arbiters when I was Quintellia (an elf bard that aspired to be an Arbiter.) It wasn't until I realized that there were real politics in CF that I realized people were actual charaters, not just mindless people running about trying to PK each other without motive.
