If the impale was a lag 'leftover' as you kept saying over and over. Then why wasn't the thief's name in it? You were at perfect health, so it's obvious that you weren't fighting the thief who then fled and came back and blackjacked. So in conclusion, I think you figured the thief (who if you are rank 40, would be near that...meaing they have a hefty backstab + dual backstab) wouldn't hurt you very much with their initial attack, and your mighty impale would easily turn things in your favor. I think you're an idiot. Unless you have shields/sanc/aura/barrier/shield or any combination of those, a thief near your level will have a backstab that will take a significant chunk out of your health. The only tactic there is unbind;flee. You could have gotten away.
