Everyone keeps describing a Maran paladin in terms that are perfectly fitting for NEUTRAL GOOD. What you just gave above is like the textbook definition of Neutral Good: "the laws have their place, to protect the good people of the land, but they shouldn't apply to group X." Or, "the laws have their place, but my belief X takes precedence over mortal law, and they shall not stand in the way of my Will." If you argue "well, my paladin follows a different law that's a lot like the Arbiter law, except it doesn't apply to evils"... umm... then how are you different from a neutral good shaman? You're not, really. Law-abiding paladins who make exceptions to their lawfulness when it suits are doing a poor job of roleplaying a lawful character. Next time, roll up a neutral good shaman Maran, and then go right ahead.
> To a Paladin, Society can be those who follow the same God, or just those who follow the Light. The key here is that anyone Lawful should at least RESPECT the other laws in the land. Obey? Not always, but when they can.
