The speed is comparable to a LAN connection(T1 or something) The cost is actually comparable to a modem. Its $40/month if you already have comcast cable and $50 if you don't. When you compare that to a phone line its no contest. A phone line is an extra $15 and the ISP is $10-20. Thats $25-35 and that is comparable to the price of the cable modem. The cable modem absolutely blows away the phone line in speed and definitely is worth a few extra dollars.
