> It doesn't seem right to have a character be born a vampire - vampires are usually portrayed as ordinary people who become vampires in some manner. Vampires could be kind of a cabal, where you get 'inducted' by getting severely injured by a vampire, but not dying. The transformation would come upon slowly, so you wouldn't know it right away, and it may not come at all, or may kill you (lower level characters less likely to survive). It would have to be balanced to keep vampires very rare. Lycanthropy could fit in with similiar system of induction, with the addition that transformation would be random (but based on time and date), and imms would be encouraged to switch into players and make them run rampant. Make lycanthropy curable by high level healers or paladins though. The interesting thing about both of these ideas, is they could be used as 'plagues' by the imms making a single vampire or lycanthrope every once in a while, and letting the disease spread.

> I imagine the transformation would increase the character's strength, dexterity, constitution, and charisma, and perhaps grant a special power or two. (Perhaps a limited charm-like effect or something? Just don't let 'em turn into bats... warriors with increased str and dex *and* flyto... *shudder*)

BTW, Worlds of Carnage mud used to have vampires - if they got caught outside during daylight, they died instantly. Made them hard to play unless you knew the mud very well.
