In Reply to: My farewell note. As an aside, I didn't spend any time beforehand on it, just wrote it on the spot when I deleted. So pardon the rambling, sometimes incoherrent nature of it. posted by Diarmuid on October 12, 1999 at 21:36:08:

Well, first off, I have to disagree that Battle is overpowered. Being a berserker myself, I know that invokers CAN kill bloodthirsty ragers. Spellbane does not get all spells, and so far in all of my raids on the Tower, I my spellbane hasn't defected one Scourge yet and that's a spell. I've been killed by geysers before and a couple different area spells that I haven't been able to block. Also, you can go get scrolls and wands to allow you to fight better, not just for doing damage. If you get a sleek amber rod, and whatever else gives shield/barrier/aura, and get a few white roots, some scrolls with protection, bless, frenzy, we're talking some major damage reduction, plus alot better hit and dam. Add that with a good weapon, and charmies, and you get yourself a one on one, rager killer. You think an invoker is rager meat, look at a muter all the way until they get their forms. When they are alone, they really can't do jack shit to defend themselves except slow, soften, and pray, or flee run like hell. You also realise that no one else is able to stand up to you at all, save a rager. Anyone else would be fried where they stood without so much as a chance to piss their pants when they realised they were going to die. Hell, by the time they realise that, they sitting at the pit. I mean it isn't like a rager can just come kill you with ease and no preparation. He/she has to make sure to be using a decent weapon (preferrably one that the mage is exceptionally vulnerable to), have a good defense, make sure that spellbane, resistance, bloodthirst (for berserkers), and whatever the hell the name of the power that let's scouts see spells in effect (for scouts) are up. And for berserkers, if it looks like it'll be an exceptionally risky battle, battle, they may want to have a poncho already when they go in to fight, even though that means they won't be able to make one of the mage if they win (I mean let's face it, it doesn't do you any good to be able to trophy a mage's corpse if you die from the fight). Also, if the mage knows his enemies well, and knows how they fight, knows when to stay and fight and knows when to run like hell, it's all pretty balanced. I don't think that the imms will be changing things anytime soon. Down the road a ways, perhaps, but not so soon as you might think. You were deffinately a good RP'er (one of the best I've seen anyway), but your view of the ragers in incorrect. You say you played a rager long ago, well play one now, and see what it's like. I have played an invoker before, and he wasn't a Master. And he did not end up as Rager bait all the time. In fact most of his kills were ragers cause he didn't hunt people, and the ragers hunted him. SO most of his battles were with ragers. Sometimes he lost, sometimes he won. That's about all there is to it.
