When I played a Knight (I started the character at the beginning of the second age, and played him until the third) we were involved in an impossible battle. For most of that period, Shadow did its job well. I recall many many many notes that speculated on whether "Jim" was a Shadow, etc. Until the "Warriors of the Full Moon" bullshit arrived, only a few of the "high-profile" Shadow had made the mistake of revealing themselves. I'm sure someone will reply saying "You just don't remember what it was like..", but that's how it was in the beginning. With Dawn, there isn't any real goal that you can point to and say "When the last battle comes, this is what we will fight for.". Sure, they all want the innocent and pure to be sheltered, etc, but there are classes and religions for that.. Also, the lack of an item means that most of the cabal tension is lost. Admittedly, this is by design for Dawn, but it still makes it feel watered down to me.. The fact that Dawn has the same title suffix thing as the Knights did just makes it more obvious to me. Of course, this is all opinion.
